Job Description / Duties

Laboratory Duties

•Assist with carrying out Andrology procedures while supervising Andrology Laboratory personnel
•Perform standard semen analysis (concentration, motility, morphology, vitality, CASA, ASA)
•Process sperm samples after testicular biopsy or epidydimal aspiration
•Perform advanced diagnosis tests (DFI)
•Prepare fresh or frozen semen samples for IUI and TDI procedures
•Cryopreserve semen samples
•Report laboratory results on medical record forms (electronic/paper) and update sample inventory records
•Receive patient and donor sperm samples
•Process and manage known donor frozen semen samples
•Maintain supply logs and aliquot media for the next day
•Participate in daily/weekly cleaning and QC
•Provide administrative assistance at the Andrology Department front desk
•Receiving patient semen samples and preparing required forms and labels for various Andrology Laboratory Services (IUI, TDI, cryopreservation, diagnostic testing)
•Scheduling and tracking samples collection in eIVF
•Taking payments for Andrology procedures not covered by OHIP

Other Duties

•Behave in a manner that respects and protects patient privacy and confidentiality
•Assist laboratory director with creating laboratory protocols and quality control programs
•Assist laboratory director with training andrology personnel
•Maintain and help optimize the department’s eIVF software for EMRs
•Provide information to physicians other departments regarding lab aspects of andrology
•Ensure the compliance of safe work practices of all staff and understand OHS regulations
•Perform quality control and quality assurance tests
•Ensure proper maintenance of equipment
•Monitor and report all adverse events and incidences
•Order and monitor laboratory supplies, media and reagents
•Continue education through literature reviews, conferences and educational courses
•Participate in ART accreditation process and inspections by Health Can
•Play an active role in monitoring and improving worker and patient safety

Research Duties

•Participate in research initiatives and weekly meetings
•Record all research hours in the electronic research activity log database for Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) documentation
•Perform benchwork and/or chart review; apply basic statistical analysis to research data
•Prepare abstracts, posters, manuscripts
•Initiate primary research projects and collaborate with other researchers


Qualifications / Required Skills

Bachelor or Masters degree in biological, medical technology or ART

Minimum 3 years' experience in supervisory role, healthcare or medical environment preferred

Knowledge of quality assurance/control, inspection and accreditation procedures

Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, ability to provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers

Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross functional team, maintain strong working relationships with co-workers and patients

Excellent time management skills and problem solving skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize work, attention to detail

Self-directed, takes initiative, motivated, compassionate

Exercise good judgment and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive information

Additional Information

Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, providing supervision of andrology laboratory personnel and playing an active role in all day-to-day andrology operations. Help to improve laboratory operating procedures and carefully followed by andrology lab staff in the continuous effort to provide the highest quality services while prioritizing patient and employee safety. Participate in and advance CReATe’s research program.

**Must be available to be scheduled Monday to Friday, Weekends and Holidays
