York University Certificate in Leadership of Assisted Reproduction in Clinical Settings

This leadership development program is designed for clinicians and administrators involved with the dayto-day operations and future success of reproduction clinics in Canada. Developed in collaboration with the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society, the Certificate addresses business and leadership fundamentals, and provides skills to address specific workplace challenges including:

  • Managing professionals of diverse backgrounds and educations
  • Servicing diverse patients/clients and families
  • Responding to legislative and regulatory change
  • Running a for-profit health care entity in Canada
  • Developing a competitive advantage to enhance the business

Does York University offer a payment plan to assist with the Leadership program?

Are there any discounts which can be applied to the Leadership program?

There is a $200 voucher available.

Are there any Funding or Grants available?

Clinics may be eligible for the Canada job grant. This is noted on the websites and in the application instructions. What is offered depends on the province and this information is available via a quick internet search for the province. The employer applies. They can receive up to $10,000 for training. Applications are usually processed within 2 weeks.

Who Should Attend?

Individuals in leadership positions within the clinical services setting, with either clinical or non-clinical training/education

What You Will Learn?

You will acquire and practice core skills through interactive modules, mentored simulations, and action learning projects, in order to demonstrate competency in the following areas:

  • Understanding and managing diverse/conflicting interests and ongoing changes in the context of the clinical workplace and the industry
  • Communication skills to promote and support a culture of trust and respect, recognition, transparency with clients and families, staff, peers, management, owners and other relevant stakeholders
  • Critical thinking in approaching challenges and opportunities in a complex and ambiguous environment; promoting comfort with uncertainty and change
  • Reflection, self-awareness and perception as a communication and leadership tool in this clinical workplace context
  • Effecting change in a collaborative, complex environment through multi-stakeholder engagement
  • Building and maintaining a competitive advantage through leadership
Note: Demonstration of competency is expected through mentored simulation, in-class projects, journals, class participation, discussion with faculty, and the action learning project. Offered jointly by Health Leadership & Learning Network at York University and the CFAS. This program is non-degree and non-credit professional education and does not confer a grade or professional designation. York University will issue a certificate of completion.

Leadership Program Curriculum

The comprehensive program will include:

⇒  Action learning projects
⇒  Mentored Simulation
⇒  In-class, interactive modules
⇒  Course content based on complexity and change, quality and care
⇒  Interactive Adult Learning principles and environment
⇒  Final course day at the CFAS AGM in September 2018

Program Dates & Locations

The 7-day certificate program over 4 modules will consist of approximately 75 hours of in-class hours and mentored action learning hours.

  • Action Learning Project – conceptualize and plan

Module 2: Day 3 & 4 May 11 – 12, 2018

  • Leadership through complexity and change

Module 3: Day 5 & 6 May 13 – 14, 2018

  • Leading through high impact teams – putting it all together
  • ALP working session
  • Leading through action
  • Simulation

Module 4: Day 7 September 12, 2018

  • Leading in the Assisted Reproduction context with CFAS guest speakers
  • ALP presentations
