Job Description / Duties
Basic Functions
• Educating and alleviate the stress and understanding of IVF/IUI
• To discuss the pathway the patient will experience
• To review their protocol and provide information about their mediations they will be receiving
• To provide consents to patients
• Make sure their viral bloods are done
• Provide teaching of IVF meds
• Work with the Day 1 team
• OR responsibilities will include Circulating, Scrub, and Discharge roles
• Assist physician's with IUI's
• Compulsory shift time with the Day 1 Team: IVF and Cycle Monitoring Day 1 preparation and documentation. Time sensitive. Training will be provided
High Level Requirements
• Preparing patients for ovum retrievals and embryo transfers, IV skills required
• IV push medications for pain and mild sedation, monitoring VS, comforting patients
• Recovering patients after ovum retrievals and embryo transfers
• Recent OR experience an asset
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving skills as well as conflict resolution skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
• Ability to perform in an emergency situation appropriately
• Good team player with positive attitude
• Weekend work inclusive of Saturday and Sunday when required
Basic Functions:
• Act independently as a Registered Nurse | Registered Practical Nurse
• Perform patient assessments and arrange and coordinate all aspects of patient treatment with team
• Guide the patients through the fertility pathway
• Must be able to discuss medications and protocols with the patient
• Acts as a liaison between patient and doctor, answer patient calls and queries as instructed
• Maintain instrumentation and equipment, knowledge of sterile reprocessing requirements in a clinical office setting
• Rotate through assigned positions in the OR, Recovery area, and Primary Care Nursing
• Participate in educational training and research activities
• Perform other related duties including but not limited to: initiation of intravenous and administration of intravenous medication. Monitoring of vital signs, pre and post-operative patient care and emergency assistance if required
• Dispense and teach administration of medication/injections as ordered by physicians
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to TRIO Fertility privacy issues and policies
Qualifications / Required Skills
Qualifications:
Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, required
BScN, preferred
Registered Practical Nurse Diploma with proof of yearly registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
ACLS certified, required
2 to 5(+) years of client service, in the field of food service or retail
Current ACLS Certification required - must have current ACLS if administering sedation to, monitoring or recovering patients (RNs only).
Yearly membership with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario required
Minimum two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an Obstetrics and Gynecology setting, preferred
Experience in Assisted Reproduction, an asset
Assets for Optimum Performance in the Assigned Role
Demonstrate empathy for patients undergoing fertility treatment
Exhibit excellent judgment and critical thinking when evaluating test results and show initiative and communication in discussing cases with team
Strong communication skills
Must be able to multi-task
Must have the ability to meet deadlines and address urgent issues both internally and externally
Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity
Computer skills (word, excel) required to support data base – EMR: BabySentry and Accuro
