Job Description / Duties

Your Role
The Nurse Manager will report to the Practice Manager and is responsible for providing leadership and support to the nursing team. The role will be to champion, drive accountability and innovation for care & wellness within the team. This role will provide direct guidance and support to both RN/RPNs. The Nurse Manager will provide quality assurance for all areas, OR, cycle monitoring and patient teaching/communication. The Nurse Manager will also work closely with the Practice Manager to collaboratively engage in advancing the clinical direction and business implementation to ensure the highest level of care and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership
• Maintains regular contact with the Practice Manager.
• Assists in recruiting and training new hires.
• Supports physicians with clinic related initiatives, and act as a liaison between physicians and nurses.
• Organizes and create weekly schedules for the nurses.
• Schedules regular meetings with the nursing team to promote teamwork and find solutions to concerns.
• Problem solves day to day issues, address any discipline issues and escalate as required.
• Assists in the performance review process for the nursing staff.
• Creates and leads nursing education material and workshops to ensure nursing education is current.
• Ensures appropriate nursing coverage on weekdays and weekends to meet clinic requirements.
• Continually reviews operating policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Patient Interaction
• Provides patient/couple counselling and education regarding treatment plans.
• Responsible to ensure documentation in charts is complete including but not limited to signed consents and blood work one day in advance of procedure.
• Responsible for all pre-procedure / verification activities including but not limited to patient admission and preparation for procedure.
• Counsels, educates, and coordinates patient discharge and ensures accurate documentation within medical record.
• Manages a caseload of patients, following up after procedures to ensure patient’s physical and emotional heath is stable. Any concerns must be documented and provided to physician in a timely manner.
• Communicates physician orders and instructions.
• Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients and patients’ families.
• Assures quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards; follows physician practice and nursing division philosophies, as well as standards of care set by the state and other governing agency regulations.

Clinical/Technical (for OR Procedures):
• Performs routine patient assessment as needed (height, weight, vital signs, phlebotomy, etc.).
• Assists physicians with IV insertion and all procedures performed in the operating room either in ACLS or scrub capacity.
• Assists in post anesthetic care of patients.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations ensuring crash cart medications are maintained.
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
• Ensures operation of equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions. Report’s problems or malfunctions to appropriate staff member.
• Ensures that supplies are ordered on a timely basis.

Team Communication:
• Builds the team through clear, open communication and leadership.
• Oversees all quality assurance initiatives including but not limited to infection control and autoclaving of instruments.
• Provides appropriate documentation of patient care via eIVF and other forms as needed.
• Covers weekends and holidays as assigned.
• Attends meetings as assigned; communicates issues where appropriate, in a timely manner.
• Cooperates, interfaces, and works independently to assure the program goals are achieved.

Reliability:
• It is an essential function of this position to report to work on time for scheduled hours, ready for work.

Scope of Financial Responsibility
• Schedules nursing according to the budget allotted, monitors overtime and absenteeism.

Professional Development
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending in-house educational workshops.
• Ensures nursing license is current, in good standing and adheres to all regulations regarding professional license.

Confidential and Sensitive Information
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping all patient information confidential.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Experience / Position Requirements
• Two years’ experience in a leadership role
• Minimum two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an Obstetrics and Gynecology setting, preferred.
• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, required.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• WHMIS certification.
• BScN, preferred.
• Current ACLS Certification required
• Experience in Assisted Reproduction
• Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
