Job Description / Duties
Job Identification:
Job Title: Senior Embryologist – IVF Laboratory
Department: Laboratory
Job Duties:
· Day to day involvement in IVF Lab procedures, including
o Quality Control
o Ordering supplies
o Cryotank inventory
· Performing:
o ICSI (insemination of oocytes)
o Biopsy of embryos for genetic testing
o Vitrification of eggs and embryos
o Denuding
o Media preparation
o Providing assistance to physician during retrievals, transfers, PESA, MESA, and TESE procedures
· Administrative work as needed, including recording and reporting of lab results, processing of paperwork for third party donors, adhering to Health Canada guidelines for receiving and shipping embryos, research projects, and lab management duties (including scheduling and acting as lead to IVF Lab staff)
· Performing regular checks of and maintenance on equipment
Qualifications / Required Skills
Specifications:
A. Skill Requirements:
· Minimum 5 years’ hands-on Canadian experience in ICSI, biopsy, vitrification of eggs and embryos, oocyte retrieval
· Experience in third party donor paperwork and processing
· Experience in receiving and shipping embryos as per Health Canada guidelines
· Detail-oriented – able to work quickly and accurately
· Time-management skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize
· Strong written and communication skills with both patients and colleagues
· Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
· Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
· Familiar with using electronic medical records
B. Knowledge Requirements:
· BSc or Master’s in Biology or laboratory science
C. Physical Requirements:
· Fine motor skills which enable performance of advanced laboratory procedures
· Ability to sit/stand/bend over for long periods of time
D. License/Certification Requirements:
· CFAS certification an asset but not required
E. Other Abilities Requirements:
· Commitment to patient-centred care
· Open to learning new techniques, processes, technologies, and procedures
· Self-motivated
