Job Description / Duties

The Embryologist is primarily responsible for performing day-to-day IVF laboratory procedures including, but not limited to, oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer, ICSI, blastocyst biopsy, oocytes and embryo vitrification, QA procedures. Consideration is limited to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

**Must be available to be scheduled Monday to Friday, weekends and holidays**

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide information to physicians regarding lab aspects of IVF treatment
• Practice safe procedures in handling human gametes and embryos
• Practice aseptic techniques and handle infectious samples (HepB, HepC and HIV)
• Maintain a clean and functional laboratory
• Perform quality control and quality assurance tests
• Ensure proper maintenance of equipment
• Prepare detailed patients’ IVF laboratory reports
• Order and monitor laboratory supplies, media and reagents
• Assist laboratory director with creating laboratory protocols and quality control programs
• Assist laboratory director with training IVF personnel
• Monitor and report all adverse events and incidences
• Continue education through literature reviews, conferences and educational courses
• Participate in ART accreditation process
• Cooperate with research team on various projects
• Maintain CFAS requirements for certification
• Active role in monitoring and improving patient safety as it applies to the duties and responsibilities

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Exercise good judgment and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive information

Education and Experience
• Bachelor or Masters degree in biological, or medical technology or ART
• CFAS Embryology Certification
• Previous experience in ART laboratory of at least two or more years preferred
