SEED Grant

Supporting Innovative, Interdisciplinary Research in Reproductive Health

The SEED Grant is a funding opportunity designed to ignite new research initiatives and promote interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of reproductive health. These grants provide early-stage financial support to CFAS members seeking to explore innovative research ideas or generate preliminary data necessary to pursue larger, externally funded studies.

Whether you're exploring a novel hypothesis, testing an emerging technique, or building bridges between traditionally separate fields, the SEED Grant can help turn your idea into a tangible, fundable research program.

Purpose of the Grant

The SEED Grant is intended to:

  • Kickstart new research projects by providing foundational funding;

  • Encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, uniting expertise from different fields or specialties;

  • Generate preliminary results or data that can strengthen applications for future funding from national or international research agencies;

  • Support projects that align with CFAS’s mission and values, including innovation, excellence in assisted reproduction, and patient-centered care.

This is your opportunity to experiment, innovate, and lay the groundwork for meaningful research that advances the reproductive sciences in Canada and beyond.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be active CFAS members in good standing.

  • Only one submission per member is allowed.

  • Projects must be original, clearly articulated, and show potential for future expansion or external funding.

  • The proposed research must align with the mission and values of CFAS.

What the Grant Supports

The CFAS SEED Grant is ideal for:

  • Launching a new research idea that requires initial funding to test feasibility;

  • Creating collaborations between distinct disciplines (e.g., clinicians and basic scientists, embryologists and ethicists, etc.);

  • Conducting pilot studies or proof-of-concept work;

  • Building the framework for future applications to major granting agencies such as CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC.

Application Guidelines

Applicants must:

  1. Submit a comprehensive proposal that includes:

    • A clear research question or objective;

    • A description of the interdisciplinary approach or collaborative nature of the work;

    • A timeline and methodology;

    • Expected outcomes and potential for future research or funding;

    • A detailed and justified budget.

  2. Ensure that all questions in the application form are fully answered and that the proposal is complete at the time of submission.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated by the CFAS Research Committee based on:

  • Scientific merit and originality;

  • Relevance to CFAS’s mission and values;

  • Interdisciplinary or collaborative nature of the project;

  • Feasibility within the proposed timeline and budget;

  • Potential for future development into a larger research program.
