Essentials of 2SLGBTQIA+ Affirming Healthcare
This year's CFAS Annual Meeting Preconference Symposium Session, Essentials of 2SLGBTQIA+ Affirming Healthcare, will discuss healthcare provider attitudes, knowledge, compassion and how cultural awareness plays a key role in quality healthcare delivery. As more youth and adults are disclosing their sexual and gender identity, it is essential that healthcare providers are aware of the diversity of and within 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual) identities and how systemic barriers contribute to disproportionate health disparities.
This session reviews 2SLGBTQIA+ terminology, identifies unconscious gender-bias within healthcare practices, and shares inclusive and affirming interpersonal language and communications that foster safety, comfort and inclusion for 2SLGBTQIA+ patients, clients and colleagues.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify cultural and systemic barriers endured by 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and families
- Broaden aspects and understandings of human sexuality specific to sex, attraction and gender
- Acquire non-assumptive, inclusive and nuanced language that foster safety and comfort.
