It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of a joint initiative between the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

 

The framework is designed to guide and support consistent practice for nurses working in assisted reproduction.

 

 

The CFAS and ASRM recognized that no national fertility nursing competencies existed and collaborated to develop this important resource.

 

It is our hope that fertility centers and nurses will use this framework within their own practices in combination with their own clinic-specific policies and procedures.

 

The framework sets out key competencies as well as sub-categories and their descriptors including:

 

The Competency Framework for Fertility Nursing is the first step towards the development of a program that also includes Service Standards for Individuals Participating in Assisted Reproductive Care, Rights and Responsibilities of Fertility Patients, and a Learning Pathway and Orientation Guideline for nurses in fertility care.
