Grants Applications 2025
This year, the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) is proud to offer a range of grant opportunities to support research, training, travel, and community initiatives within our membership.
CFAS will be awarding the following grants in 2025:

1 SMART Research Grant – valued at $30,000 CAD

Up to 3 Seed Grants – each valued at $10,000 CAD
-
Up to 3 Training Grants – each valued at $10,000 CAD
-
1 Community Grant – valued at $7,500 CAD
-
Up to 5 Travel Grants – each valued at $1,500 CAD
These grants reflect CFAS’s continued commitment to advancing research, education, and equitable access to fertility care across Canada.
Criteria for Selection:
To be included in the judging, proposals must demonstrate that the research project involves collaboration between two or more primary investigators who work in different locations and who represent clearly distinct disciplines. You must be a member to apply for grants.
Proposals will be judged on the following criteria:
- Quality of the scientific/research idea (20%)
- Originality of the idea (20%)
- The chances of success (20%)
- The value of the results to be obtained (20%)
- Qualification of the applicant or co-applicants (20%)
Selection Process:
A sub-committee of the CFAS Board of Directors will review all applications. The sub-committee shall consist of at least three members; one basic scientist, one clinician, and one person specializing in humanities. Proposals will be ranked according to the evaluation criteria outlined above. Successful applicants will be awarded funding subject to annual budgetary limits. Primary Investigators must be CFAS members in good standing.

SMART Research Grant
The CFAS) is pleased to award one (1) SMART Fund Research Grant valued at $30,000 CAD.
The SMART (Supporting Meaningful Analysis and Research in Technologies) Grant is designed to provide financial support for innovative research projects that explore critical issues in fertility and reproductive health—particularly those not currently funded by traditional granting agencies.
Priority will be given to projects that involve data analysis using BORN (Better Outcomes Registry & Network) or other recognized and reliable data sources. All submissions must align with CFAS’s mission and values, with a focus on improving patient outcomes, clinical practice, or reproductive health policy.

SEED Research Grant
The CFAS is pleased to award up to three (3) Research SEED Grants, each valued at $10,000 CAD.
The SEED Grant program is designed to foster collaboration across diverse disciplines and provide early-stage financial support for innovative research in reproductive health. These grants are intended to help researchers initiate new projects or generate preliminary data that can serve as the foundation for larger studies and future funding opportunities through major granting agencies.
This is an excellent opportunity to launch new and exciting research initiatives that align with CFAS’s mission and values, while encouraging multidisciplinary approaches to advancing the field of assisted reproduction.

TRAINING Research Grant
The CFAS is pleased to award up to three (3) Training Grants, each valued at $10,000 CAD.
The Training Grant is intended to support research projects conducted by fellows in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) programs that are formally accepted by departments within recognized higher education institutions. These grants aim to help fellows initiate or advance clinical or academic projects that contribute to the field of assisted reproduction.
All proposed projects must be ethically sound and closely align with CFAS’s mission and values, particularly in promoting excellence in research, education, and patient-centered fertility care.

Community Grant
The CFAS is pleased to grant $7,500 CAD for 2 years.
The CFAS Community Grant is designed to support Canadian organizations that are driving positive change in reproductive healthcare. Applications are welcomed from non-profits, charities, academic institutions, and healthcare providers based in Canada. This grant provides funding for programs that improve access to fertility care, offer patient support, and promote education in the field of reproductive health.
Application Process

Travel Grant
The CFAS is pleased to offer up to five (5) Travel Grants valued at $1,500 CAD each to support students and post-graduate trainees who are presenting at the CFAS Annual Meeting. This grant is awarded to the top 2–3 abstracts submitted by eligible applicants—those who are current students or post-graduate trainees, are the primary authors of their abstracts, and have confirmed they are not receiving institutional funding for travel or registration.
The CFAS Travel Grant is intended to help offset travel and registration costs for those who would otherwise not have financial support to attend the Annual Meeting.
Application Process
No separate application is required. Eligibility and selection are assessed through the abstract submission process.
