Job Description / Duties

Main responsibilities
Under the medical authority of the Director of the molecular diagnostic laboratory and the administrative authority of the Service chief, laboratory, the clinical specialist in biological sciences will develop new molecular genetic techniques for clinical use, and will participate in laboratory management.
Responsibilities
 Collaborates to the development of new genetic and molecular genomic assays intended for clinical use. The main responsibility for the successful applicant will be to develop and implement preimplantation genetic tests for monogenic conditions (PGT-M).
 Establishes new molecular genetic techniques, more specifically the PGT-M assay using Karyomapping®, as well as by direct detection or TP-PCR, when necessary, to be used in clinics.
 Participates to the clinical functioning of the molecular genetic laboratory by validating the molecular biology analyses and by supervising technical personnel.
 Develops, validate, apply and maintain quality control strategies.
 Develops databases using data from accessible resources and data generated in the laboratory.
 Develops procedures to minimize the risk of error for each protocol.
 Writes protocols and standard operating procedures, and insures they are kept up to date.
 Trains other lab members
 Knows and insures the respect of laws and bylaws regulating the safe delivery of services and care.
 Contributes to the maintenance of a safe environment.
 Participates in the teaching activities of the laboratory of molecular diagnostic as well as of those of the medical genetics Division

Qualifications / Required Skills

 Holds a PhD in molecular biology, human genetics or related field.
 Prior experience with PGT-M and / or with single cell analyses will be considered a significant asset
 Relevant experience in routine molecular diagnostic techniques (PCR, RT-PCR, Sanger sequencing, TP-PCR, ligation analyses, SNP-array). Relevant experience with other usual molecular techniques an asset.
 Relevant experience in next generation sequencing in a genomic context.
 Being board-certified or board eligible in clinical molecular genetics by the CCMG or the ABMGG is considered an asset.
 Being able to fluently communicate in French (written and spoken) is mandatory.

Additional Information

Conditions
 9 months contract;
 Salary is established based on training and experience. All other conditions are based on norms currently in effect.
