Job Description / Duties

The Embryologist is responsible for the handling and care of human gametes and embryos during ART treatment. The performance duties include:
-collection, assessment and handling of human oocytes after egg retrieval.
-sperm preparation for fertilization.
-embryo grading, selection and preparation for embryo transfer
-embryo and oocyte cryopreservation and thawing procedures
- may also perform Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) , assisted hatching and biopsy procedures for preimplantation genetic testing.
-accountable for proper recording and documentation of assessments and procedures performed.
-assists with ensuring proper maintenance of lab equipment and supplies
-liaisons with patients, physicians, nursing, and administrative staff to ensure collaborative patient care

Qualifications / Required Skills

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from an accredited educational institution as well as a minimum of one year of experience as an Embryologist in a human embryology lab.
The applicant must demonstrate the ability to work and communicate collaboratively and effectively in a multi disciplinary team environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary, as well as strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with patients in a sensitive and clear manner.

Start date: Immediate

Direct report: Embryology Lab Director

Work environment:
-Periods of high-volume with occasional interruptions requiring re-assessment of priorities and changes in tasks.
-Potential for contact with liquid nitrogen and blood/body fluids.
-Will be required to work rotational shifts, including weekends.
Physical demands:
-Prolonged sitting and work with microscopes.
-Close visual attention required for extended periods of time.
-Fine manual dexterity

Salary: Commensurate with experience /qualifications.
