Job Description / Duties

JOB SUMMARY:

The role of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Nurse requires collaborative relationships both within and outside the nursing profession. Reporting to the Clinical Practice Manager, the REI Nurse will work autonomously carrying out clinical practice and delegated medical acts. This requires close collaboration with the attending Reproductive Endocrinologists and excellent communication with clinic staff and patients.
DUTIES:
Clinical Practice
The primary responsibility of the REI Nurse is to use her/his theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise to provide holistic direct patient care.
o Provide nursing care to all patients and their families in a collaborative interdisciplinary team environment. Nursing care includes starting IVs assisting at retrievals, recovering patients, administering medications, collecting bloods, and carrying out all delegated medical acts that have been approved at ONE Fertility.
o Provide family-centered care through evidence-based practice.
o Promote a learning environment within the clinic and the community. The REI nurse is responsible for teaching patients about their treatment cycles as well as how to administer self-injections.
o Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with patients / families and interdisciplinary colleagues.
o Act as an effective team member by sharing opinions, debating issues and aligning personal objectives with those of the team.
o Answer patient phone calls and provide advice within nursing scope.
o Flag abnormal results for MD review.
o Liaise with other staff and maintain standards of clinical practice as prescribed by the professional body of the Ontario College of Nurses.
o Report any critical incident in a timely fashion to the Medical Director and participate in continuous quality assessment and risk management on an ongoing basis.
o Work toward the ultimate goal of attaining the highest possible patient satisfaction and the least morbidity.

Qualifications / Required Skills

QUALIFICATION:
o Registered Nurse in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses.
o Five years previous work experience in a women’s health care setting is preferred.
o Previous experience in fertility is strongly preferred.
o Strong verbal and written skills.
o Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
o Previous work experience in a high-risk area (OR, labor and delivery) is an asset.
o Basic (BCLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

HOURS:

o Part-Time position.
o Must be able to work on Sunday
